    Romantic Restaurants

There’s a wonderful young chef here in St. Remy, David Catena, who owns a small charming restaurant called La Forge. David is classically trained and worked in a number of Michelin-starred restaurants around before deciding to come home to St. Remy and open his own place.

Rather than focus on the classic Provencal dishes that so many other local restaurants serve—or a traditional menu based on starters and main courses--David decided to serve tapas, featuring ingredients and flavors from around the world. He also serves one set menu of more traditional dishes each evening: three courses for around 20 €, which is very good value for money. My friends and I eat at La Forge once or twice a week.

The tapas at La Forge are priced at just 3.50 € each. Three of them, with a basket of warm bread—and a glass, bottle or a carafe of wine--make a lovely meal. There are as many as 15 tapas on the menu each evening and the selection changes constantly, depending on what's in season or what strikes David's fancy at the market. The wine selection is carefully edited, mostly regional and very reasonably priced. The room itself is classically Provencal, with thick stone walls, exposed beams, tile-topped tables and lots of flickering candles.

La Forge is a wonderful option for your clients who want to eat lightly, casually, quickly or inexpensively. It's also a great choice for a romantic evening or a family gathering. Private parties and groups are welcome. La Forge serves dinner only, beginning at 8 p.m, and is closed Tuesdays. Lunches can be arranged for groups. Reservations are suggested for larger parties but are not required. The restaurant is located right in the village, a quick walk from many of the most-popular hotels. Parking is on the street or in nearby lots. Catering is also available.

If you have clients coming to St. Remy or to nearby towns, I hope you’ll encourage them to try La Forge. David speaks some English and his server, Philippe, speaks it well. A good time to call is after 7 p.m., time (1 p.m. in New York ). David and his wife are expecting their first child any day and it’s a busy time for them. So feel free to also contact me if you have any questions. The restaurant business is quite tough here and La Forge deserves to succeed!
