Meet at Bolzano train station cafe and transfer to our welcoming Agriturismo in the Alta Badia valley. This remarkable valley, surrounded by towering limestone peaks, is home to a unique culture. Here the first language is not Italian but Ladin, and local traditions, myths and legends abound.

Today we embark on a day hike around the impressive massif of Sass Putia, with superb contrasts in scenery between the gently sloping Alpine pastures with their traditional wooden buildings, and the soaring rocky walls towards which we climb.
Total distance: Approx 16km (10miles)
Height Gain: Approx 950m (3000ft)
Hiking Time: Approx 7-8 hours

Today we cisit the famous Valley of the Mills, to see the ancient traditional Alta Badia way of using water to power the bread mills. Afterwards we will try some of the local delicacies and learn more about how and when they are made.
Day 4Alta BadiaDay 4 Rifugio Genova day hike, Alta Badia (B,D)
Today's hike sees us ascend to Rifugio Genova for magnificent views westwards. We then continue on a narrow path above a steep slope to Medalga Alm. This is a traditional small wooden cabin which would originally have been used by shepherds and cowherds tending their animals in the high pastures. Nowadays they are open in high season for refreshments and local produce. If the Medalga is open (seasonal opening hours vary) we can try a traditional Alta Badia lunch of cured meats and cheeses, washed down with the fantastic apple juice of this area. We then continue, contouring along a Dolomite scree slope, before descending a long valley and finally back to Longiaru'.

Day 5Alta BadiaDay 5 Free day (B)
Options include a day trip to Val Gardena, or the Sella massif. Or if you wish to venture further afield, you could visit Bolzano or Cortina. Alternatively, there are plenty more walks locally. Or just relax in the glorious countryside of Alta Badia! In the evening, the restaurant and pizzeria of Longiaru' are just a 20-minute walk away.
Day 6Alta BadiaDay 6 day hike from Alta Badia (B,D)
Today we venture a little further afield to explore the walks, the stunning scenery and the fascinating remains of the WWI trenches around Passo Falzarego and Passo Valparola. You cannot fail to be touched by the poignant relics of this bitter conflict even as you marvel at the stunning mountain scenery which was its backdrop

Day 7Alta BadiaDay 7 Cima Dodici Apostoli day hike from Alta Badia (B,D)
Today's walk is true high Dolomite scenery as we follow trails which lead us into the heart of the Pues massif and maybe, if we are lucky, to the top of Cima Dodici. The magnificent views back across the valley to our Agriturismo far below are truly well worth the effort!
